Flooring Installation: What to Know Before You Hire

Flooring installation is where a subfloor's condition stops being theoretical — every dip, squeak, and moisture issue shows up in the finished floor if it isn't addressed first. Professionals typically test and correct the subfloor before a single plank or tile goes down.

Acclimation matters as much as installation technique: wood and laminate flooring needs to sit in the room it's being installed in for days beforehand, or it will expand and contract after installation instead of before.

What This Work Typically Includes

  • Subfloor levelling and moisture correction
  • Material acclimation before installation
  • Hardwood, engineered wood, tile, laminate, vinyl
  • Transitions and trim finished cleanly

Installing over a concrete basement slab is a different job from a main-floor install. Subfloor and moisture planning for basements is covered on its own page.
